THE Cricket SA (CSA) competition tainted by match-fixing last season has lost its title sponsor.
A CSA release on Friday said Ram Hand to Hand Couriers had “agreed not to exercise an option to extend the sponsorship of the (Ram Slam T20 Challenge) for a further two years”.
Calls to the company for comment proved fruitless but in January their legal and commercial executive director, Alan da Costa, told Sport24 it “notes with concern the allegations in relation to match-fixing”.
Da Costa said “no-one ever wants their brand associated with any dishonest activities and we are seriously considering the outcome of the matter before renewing our sponsorship”.
Five players have since admitted involvement in fixing during the tournament and have been banned from cricket for periods ranging from seven years to life.
Friday’s release quoted CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat as saying that “regrettably we were not able to agree on the option to extend our current relationship”.
It also said next season’s tournament would “go ahead as planned” and would start on November 12.
