TELFORD VICE, Galle
SA have suffered a scare ahead of tomorrow’s first test against Sri Lanka in Galle with AB de Villiers experiencing tightness in his right hamstring
Consequently, De Villiers, SA’s wicketkeeper and a key batsman, did not keep wicket during yesterday’s training session.
De Villiers felt the effects of what could be a strain during his 108 in the third one-day international in Hambantota on Saturday, which SA won by 82 runs to clinch a series in that format for the first time in Sri Lanka.
Cricket SA said in a statement yesterday that De Villiers would “continue to receive treatment and is likely to be available for selection for Wednesday’s match”.
However, the statement did not say whether De Villiers would be considered as wicketkeeper or purely as a batsman. If he is unable to do duty behind the stumps, Quinton de Kock would be the obvious replacement.
