Duminy for president

TELFORD VICE, Cape Town

JP Duminy took time out from rehabilitating his troublesome knee to be elected president of the SA Cricketers’ Association (SACA) at their annual meeting in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Duminy is set to miss at least the first test against West Indies at Centurion next week because of his injury.

His executive comprises the Titans’ Farhaan Behardien, Omphile Ramela of the Cobras and the Lions’ Stephen Cook. They were elected by 230 SACA members drawn from the SA, franchise and semi-professional provincial structures.

“The meeting was not just about electing leaders but also about SACA’s management team reporting back to players on the work we’ve been doing over the last year and about getting player feedback on our plans for the coming year,” a SACA statement quoted chief executive Tony Irish as saying.

Meanwhile, Cricket SA said on Wednesday the SABC would offer live television coverage and ball-by-ball radio broadcasts of SA’s home matches for the next three years.

The SABC have curtailed coverage of cricket despite only 1.7-million of the game’s 7.4-million followers in SA having access to the relevant pay TV service.
