Photo essay: Windhoek to Cape Town

A dozen scenes from seat 9A on a flight home from Namibia.

Telford Vice / Somewhere in the Sky

I was lucky that the aircraft window was more or less clean, and that I could shoot through two different windows. (The photographs themselves were lost in the move off WordPress and couldn't be recovered — what's left is what they showed.)

First up, clouds. You can see the shadow of some of those clouds here, along with a smartly timed — even if I say so myself — visual intersection of one of the aircraft's engines and a sharply contrasting dirt road. If you thought Namibia was all about the Namib, there's green in them thar many hills around Windhoek. More clouds, these with holes nogal. And that, folks, is the Orange River, the border between Namibia and South Africa, treacling its way darkly towards the Atlantic Ocean. Are these salt pans? Answers in the comments, please. Not the surface of the moon. More salt pans? Then we crept up on stone dragons. We even saw them lounging by the pool. Along with skulking under those ever-present clouds. Behold, the winelands. That's our aircraft's shadow as we came in to land. Table Mountain was visible through the windows on the starboard side across the aisle. But here's some of Cape Town's reality that doesn't make the tourist brochures, complete with sheep.

Watcha reckon? I think this might become an irregular feature here at Bulletproof Truth.
