MAKHAYA Ntini was promoted and Lance Klusener appointed as Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) made sweeping changes to their national team’s management structure on Tuesday.
Former SA fast bowler Ntini, who joined Zimbabwe as their bowling coach in January, was elevated to head coach in an acting capacity in the wake of Dav Whatmore being fired, according to a ZC release.
However, Ntini’s time at the top is likely to be limited, what with the release saying he will hold the reins “until the appointment of a substantive head coach”.
Klusener, a former SA allrounder who played for a Zimbabwean franchise, the Mutare Mountaineers, in 2010-11, has signed a two-year contract as batting coach. He starts work on June 5.
Former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu, who once fled his country after receiving death threats, is the new convenor of selectors.
Hamilton Masakadza has been fired as captain in all three formats. His vice-captain, Graeme Cremer, will take over.
Zimbabwe will host India for three one-day internationals and two T20s from June 11.
